For Immediate Release:
The Sänger-Bredt Spaceplane Model Kit
Build a 1:72 vacuum-formed model of the secret, Nazi-era bomber
Kingston, NY, USA - April 25, 2001 - The Kingston Vacuum Works announces the release of a vacuum formed model kit of the Nazi-era Sänger-Bredt Spaceplane in 1:72 scale. This unique and unusual subject is ideal for the first-time vac-form kit builder and is all the easier for the experienced modeler. The kit features a well-illustrated and referenced manual that takes the builder through the process of achieving a first-rate model.
The Sänger-Bredt Spaceplane was designed in a secret German laboratory and testing facility by space pioneer Eugen Sänger and mathematician Irene Bredt. Dubbed the “Amerika Bomber,” this plane was to rocket into space and coast down, circling the globe in a series of ever-shallower skips off the atmosphere. At about the half way point, the mission would be completed by a long glide back to base. During the course of this flight the flat bottomed craft was to attain a speed of Mach 10 and an altitude of some 180 miles. Its payload was to be a 3-4 ton bomb and its intended target was New York City! The project was canceled in 1941, but Sänger’s interest in space technology continued.
Two complete fuselages are included in the kit, allowing the modeler to build two complete models or to recover from one non-recoverable error. Sufficient plastic is included to complete two models and to fabricate rocket nozzles. Brass tubing is included to make model supports and paint stands.
The kit makes an 11" long (35.5cm) table-top model and allows for the use of after-market modeling accessories and decals. Camouflage patterns and national markings are a matter of conjecture, because the craft was never put into production. The Sänger-Bredt Spaceplane was intended to be a bomber and any degree of super-detailing can be performed.
The Sänger-Bredt Spaceplane Model Kit is $39.00. Advance orders have already been received from Germany and Hong Kong. Shipping outside the U.S. and dealer discounts are available. The kit can be ordered by phone, toll free at 877-560-6398, and securely on line at www.warmplastic.com. Questions about the kit will also be answered by calling the toll free number. The Kingston Vacuum Works accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express, U.S. checks and money orders.
