For Immediate Release:
Table top vacuum formers for modeler's — work right out of the box!
Hobbyists can easily create any shape imaginable in plastic.
Kingston, NY, USA - October 19, 2000 - The Kingston Vacuum Works introduces table-top vacuum formers for the plastic modeling enthusiast. Vacuum forming, the process of drawing warm plastic over the contours of a shape, allows hobbyists to improve manufactured models and to scratch build plastic models of subjects that are not commercially available. Kingston Vacuum Works vacuum formers make the process quick, easy and affordable by using the modeler's home vacuum cleaner and kitchen oven.
Vacuum forming allows hobbyists to make a plastic copy of any pattern they design. Patterns can be made out of basswood, plywood, self-hardening or baked clays, acrylic or metals. The hobbyist warms a sheet of plastic in a conventional kitchen oven for about 90 seconds. This makes the plastic highly pliable. Warm plastic is placed over the pattern on a Kingston Vacuum Works vacuum former. Then, a home vacuum cleaner provides the pull on the plastic. The process is so straightforward that a Kingston Vacuum Works vacuum former can be used immediately after opening the box and warming the oven.
Kingston Vacuum Works vacuum formers are available in four models: the Kingston Micro with a working surface of 4x6", The Kingston Junior with a working surface of 6x8", the Kingston Mono with a working surface of 8x10" and the Zeppelin Master with a working surface of 11x16". Each model comes with complete illustrated instructions and generous amounts of white styrene and clear acetate butyrate.

The Kingston Vacuum Works vacuum formers were created by Eliot R. Brown, a technical illustrator and dedicated modeler. He got tired of reading the accounts of supremely confident modelers who would write, "Then I vacuum formed a WWII tea kettle." After many failed attempts using a small, commercially produced vacuum former and the vacuum formers he built following the "how to" instructions in modeling magazine articles, he painstakingly researched vacuum forming devices made by professional modelers. Armed with new information, he designed what is now the Kingston Mono. The success he then enjoyed vacuum forming his projects made him realize that other hobbyists would appreciate the joys and satisfaction of easy, desk-top vacuum forming.
Kingston Vacuum Works vacuum formers can be used by model railroaders, candy mold makers, mask makers, toy makers, R/C plane and boat makers, diorama makers, architectural modelers, puppet makers, doll house accessory makers, sample product makers and point of purchase display makers.
